FARE THE WELL

Hi everybody,

See you.. Happy holidays !..

WEEKLY MIRROR: NINTH POST

This week, listening and grammar exams really sorted the whole class out :) So we felt rather frustrated. This week in reading lesson, we had a discussion on adolescence.

WEEKLY MIRROR: EIGHTH POST

This week, on Monday, we dealt with writing a cause and effect essay in the lesson. It was very exciting to try it during the lesson. On Thursday, we discussed about endangered languages topic in reading lesson. It was a really interesting topic. We didn't aware of the fact that some languages have been really dying out !

CHEERS:)

LOVE QUOTES AND SAYINGS

-Love is like the sun coming out of the clouds and warming your soul.

-Love can sometimes be magic. But magic can sometimes…just be an illusion.

-You don’t love a woman because she is beautiful, but she is beautiful because you love her.

-Love is anterior to life, posterior to death, initial of creation, and the exponent of breath.

-Love is a precious gift that you receive, and you need to give it with caution!

WEEKLY MIRROR: SEVENTH POST

In this week, our writing topic was about cause and effect essays. In reading lesson, we discussed how stress can affect our health, what stress can cause and what the reasons of stress are. Soon, we learnt that stress may lead to very serious illnesses in the future. So, it's important to stay away from stress whatever troubles and problems we encounter with in our daily life...

So long!! :)

WEEKLY MIRROR: SIXTH POST

The mid-term examinations' week...All of the exams were rather difficult. In writing exam, we were supposed to write a contrast essay using point by point method and we were also asked to fill in certain blank parts of an opinion essay. Nevertheless we dealt with them and were able to see the weekend =)

WEEKLY MIRROR: FIFTH POST

This week, gender and sexuality was our main topic in reading lesson. In this unit, we looked at the issues related to being male and being female and learnt about our gender roles in the society and the differences between two genders. We also paid attention how our family, children's books, school and the media affects on our perception of our gender roles. It was very impressive. In writing lesson, we went on deaing with comparing and contrast essay and finished it. We tried to get used to write essays with five paragraphs :))

WEEKLY MIRROR: FOURTH POST

In this week, we learnt about how to write a comparison and contrast essay in writing lesson. We also learnt the organization in two different ways: by comparing and contrasting a number of issues point by point and by focusing first on the similarities and then the differences in writing lesson. In reading lesson, we dealt with "Fertility Now". In this topic, we talked about the controversial and confusing events such as donating egg, surrogate motherhood, etc. I think it was useful for us to learn and at least have an idea about suchlike controversial topics :)))

WHAT’S THE BEST SOLUTION TO OVERCOME TRAFFIC PROBLEMS?

Whether we realize it or not; as cities develop, more and more problems come out. Traffic jams are only one of those problems and maybe the most important one. There are some ways to prevent the congestions, but what is the best way? They just keep bringing a different complexity onto the tension which exists anyway in our daily life. Traffic jams have been affecting our lives dramatically, so we have to look for solutions in order to reduce the congestions.

The most effective and the most reasonable way to reduce traffic jams in our cities is to use public transportation instead of using private cars. The rising levels of traffic congestion in most of the cities in the world can be attributed directly to the increasing number of private cars. Because of this, many roads are insufficient to meet the number of vehicles. Those heavy congestions decrease the quality of life and make the life become miserable for us. For example, it can be a good idea to make using the public buses, school buses and bicycles compulsory for those who have to travel from home to work or from home to school everyday so that the heavy traffic in our cities can be efficiently organized. Nevertheless there are some opponents who still hesitate to give up their cars and use public transportation. Their general reason is that a car is always faster than a bus or a bicycle, thus they think that they can arrive at their destinations in time and there’s no need to use public transportation now that they own their private cars. Of course, it is a fact that private cars go faster than other public vehicles, but if they still insist on preferring to travel by their own cars, the hardship in the roads that we try to endure everyday will never come to an end. Actually, it isn’t worth it spending a lot of time by standing in your private car and just waiting for the cessation of the congestion for hours. This is just illogical. In a nutshell, it is crucial to make people understand that we will lead a better life from every aspect by reducing such unbearable traffic problems.

To sum up, now that we are always facing with the seriousness of the traffic congestions in our daily life, now it’s high time that we should be aware of it and try to improve it with our own efforts if we really want to live in a more comfortable and more endurable environment. We shouldn’t ignore the fact that the fewer cars people use, the fewer traffic congestions people will have.

WEEKLY MIRROR: THIRD POST

We are dealing with our blogs for three weeks and we learned so many things about it. Apart from it, in the third week our subject was crime and punishment. Our teacher wanted us to prepare presentations. I think each presentation was really interesting and everybody did their bests. We presented Ancient China And India. Meanwhile, we learned many strange and interesting stories about some ancient civilizations. For example, Egypt presentation was very cool. I really appreciate my friends' efforts. Generally speaking, it was a bit difficult for us to find somewhere to meet and to prepare our presentation, but it was completely acceptable work. I believe that next week will be more exiciting unless we are given so many homeworks. Because we got tired and also exhausted with those homeworks these days, so what we only want to do these days is just to take a deep breath. Except for that, everything went very well for me.

Regards ;)

WEEKLY MIRROR: SECOND POST

We learned how to write an opinion essay and its organization. We tried to write but unfortunately some of us couldn't catch on the counter arguement and the refutation, so Gülsen Teacher wasn't content with the situation. We were supposed to write our essays again. Apart from that, Metin taught us very useful things about our blogs. Now everything is OK...

enjoy ::)))

LISTENING PART= WHICH SONG IS EMIR LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?

PINK who knew

THE 'WHY' QUESTION OF THE WEEK: "Why does water not calm the tongue after eating hot spicy food?"

-Did you know?
The spices in most of the hot foods that we eat are oily, and, like your elementary school science teacher taught you, oil and water don’t mix. In this case, the water just rolls over the oily spices.
What can you do to calm your aching tongue? Eat bread. The bread will absorb the oily spices. A second solution is to drink milk. Milk contains a substance called “casein” which will bind to the spices and carry them away. Alcohol also dissolves oily spices.

DO IT YOURSELF !

LISTENING PART= WHICH SONG IS EMIR LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?

Linkin Park - From The Inside

THE 'WHY' QUESTION OF THE WEEK: "Why do you get hiccups?"

-Did you know?
Hiccups happen when the diaphragm, the muscle that controls our breathing, becomes irritated and start to spasm and contract uncontrollably. With each contraction, air is pulled into the lungs very quickly, passes through the voice box, and then the epiglottis closes behind the rush of air, shaking the vocal chords, causing the “hic” sound. The irritation can be caused by rapid eating, emotional stress and even some diseases. The best cure? Breathing into a paper bag. This calms the diaphragm by increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in your bloodstream.

ARE THE REALITY SHOWS WORTH WATCHING?

Whether we realize it or not, reality television programs are growing in popularity day by day. But do the reality shows have the benefit of watching them? Are they really entertaining programs or are they just take time for nothing? I think they are not worth watching and I qualify them as 'time-killers'.

I think it's wise to say that those kind of programs are just for making money, not for education or teaching people to be more mature and civilized. Well, they may be seen as if they were realistic but, in fact, they aren't at all. Some people who watch these programs think that they are realistic, but under no circumstances, they want to send their wives or husbands to such an island which is full of singles or a house which is full of snakes or insects. They are even much more unrealistic to me. For instance, The Temptation Island, let's begin with that show. I think that The Temptation Island isn't so tempting. 4 couples, 13 singles and the tropical island paradise. I admit, I watched the first episode after being coerced by friends that it was "so bad, it's great." After the first episode what did I learn from these intrepid couples: Nothing. The contestants were all acting like idiots, and expressing their 'fascinating' views about dating and love. And the second show: The Big Brother. It is such a stupid show that I don't even understand the point of this show. One word stupid, plus three words: WASTE OF TIME! Fear Factor is another show which is more realistic than the temptation island and the Big Brother. I also admit that I tried to watch its full season. One word: Yuck! Well, would you go on TV and eat bugs? Would you let a scorpion or a snake wander around in your clothes? I surely wouldn't! Not even for a million dollars! Some people think that these shows are the easy ways of getting money but after being so publicly disgraced, what's the use of the money? This show makes me get sick to my stomach and I want to throw up. How can anyone stand to watch even 2 minutes of this sickening vomitous show? The things they make, the contestants do is very disturbing and disgusting!

In these shows, there are generally amazing big stunts, the tension between the contestants is big. They also talk each other down, as a part of the mindgame. . So what ultimately happens? Nothing. I still think that they are all foolish and give nothing to the viewer.

A LIVELY CAT'S PROFILE

                                                                          PERKY

Hi, my name is Perky.  I am a three-year-old, female, grey cat.  My name comes from my being lively and attractive.  In fact, I was not lively at all when Emir had found me.  I was rather poor.  It was very tough to find something to eat and somewhere to shelter outside both for me and for my kittens. Oh, by the way I have three kittens and I love each of my babies separately. Thanks to Emir and his mother, everything is all right now.  There are a lot of reasons why we are so happy. First of all, we are in safe, we are sheltered, we are looked after and maybe the most important one is; we are given foods.  Seeing the other cats in hardship makes me feel very sorry.  So, if I could speak with humans, firstly I would really want to thank Emir and his mother sincerely for their affection towards us.  I see that Emir's mother has the same personality as me, because we are both aware of that motherhood is a job that requires a lot of enthusiasm, dedication and self-sacrifice.  I also would say to his mother that Emir is very messy.  Because once I noticed that he took off his stinky socks after he entered his room and hide them under the sofa.  This drove me crazy.  Well, maybe it can be a little bit exaggeration, but you know, we, us, I mean, mothers...

EMİR ÜNLÜBAŞ

HELLO, EVERYONE !

This week, I couldn't attend the Writing course on Thursday,so I can only talk about what I learnt from the course on Monday. On Monday, I leant about blogging and how to get an blogger account. I think it will be very useful both for me and my friends. Because as long as we use our blogs, we both enjoy and learn new things from each other. Well, for instance, I chose two useful websites for you below the pharagraph. These websites teach us how to write an opinion pharagraph and show us tips for writing good opinion paragraphs,as well and this is why I chose them. While improving our writing skills, I thought  that we can benefit from them especially before we start to write an opinion pharagraph. I think you all will agree with me after you visit these websites.

Good luck,
Cheers:)
